On Instagram specifically
Instagram is where this method fits most naturally, because the mechanic it uses is the one the platform actively rewards rather than one it tolerates.
What the platform rewards
Engagement that keeps people on the app. Comments especially - they are the strongest signal available that a post is worth showing to more people.
A method built on asking for comments is therefore aligned with the algorithm rather than working around it, which is why it survives platform changes that break tactics built on outbound links.
What it penalises
Sending people away. Every outbound click costs the platform a session, and posts that push people off it reach fewer people.
That is the structural reason a link in a bio underperforms, and it is not going to change - the incentive is permanent.
The mechanic, on this platform
- A post that earns attention on one subject
- An invitation to comment one specific word
- An automatic message delivering what was promised
- A question, and then a real conversation
Everything happens inside the app until the person actively chooses to leave, which is the whole design.
What to expect in the first month
Very little reach, because the platform has not worked out who to show you to yet. That period is not a verdict on the content and it ends once enough posts on one subject exist for you to be categorised.
People who quit in week three quit during the phase where nothing was supposed to be happening. Knowing the shape in advance is most of the defence against it.
Whether follower count matters
Less than people assume. Reach comes substantially from people who do not follow you, so a small account with a relevant post can reach the right people while a large unfocused account does not.
What matters is whether the post reaches people for whom your recommendation is genuinely relevant, and that is a subject-choice problem rather than a size problem.
What to post about, concretely
Answers to things people in your subject actually ask, one per piece, said plainly. Not a personality, not a lifestyle, not a montage - an answer.
That format survives on every platform, converts into conversations because the person already had the question, and is far easier to sustain than anything requiring performance.
The limitation worth knowing
Nothing compounds. A post reaches its audience within days and then contributes nothing, which means the work resets constantly.
That is not a reason to avoid it - it is the fastest route to early conversations - but it is a reason to eventually pair it with something that accumulates.
